Two-factor authentication
Turn optional authenticator or email 2FA on or off for finipher.com, desktop, and the web app.
Two-factor authentication is optional. When it is on, finipher.com, the web app, and the desktop app ask for a second factor after your password.
What to use
- Authenticator app (recommended). Google Authenticator, 1Password, or any RFC 6238 app.
- Email codes. A 6-digit code from Finipher. Weaker if someone already has your inbox.
- Recovery codes. Ten one-time codes shown once when you enroll. Store them offline.
SMS / text messages are not available.
Turn authenticator on
- Sign in at finipher.com/account.
- Open Sign-in & security.
- Choose Set up authenticator.
- Scan the QR code, or type the secret into your app.
- Enter the 6-digit code to confirm.
- Copy the recovery codes immediately. They are shown once.
Turn email codes on
- Stay on Account.
- Choose Enable email codes.
- Confirm with your password. If authenticator is already on, also enter a current app code.
- Save any recovery codes if they appear.
Sign in after 2FA is on
- Enter email and password as usual.
- If you use an authenticator, type the 6-digit app code.
- Or choose Email me a code and enter that code.
- Or choose Use a recovery code.
The desktop app uses the same second step. There is no session until the code succeeds.
Turn 2FA off
- Open Account → Sign-in & security.
- Choose Turn off 2FA.
- Enter your password and a current authenticator code, or an unused recovery code.
Resetting your password does not turn 2FA off. If you lose the authenticator and the recovery codes, email [email protected].
You'll know it worked when
Account shows 2FA on, and the next sign-in on the website or desktop app asks for a code.
If this doesn't work
Wait for the next authenticator code (they rotate every 30 seconds). After five failed attempts you must enter your password again. Use a recovery code if email is delayed.
